1 〔薬の〕 a dose.

●薬を 1 日 3 回一服ずつ飲む take a dose of medicine three times a day.

2 〔茶の〕 a cup of tea.

～する have a cup of tea.

●腰を下ろしてお茶をゆっくりと一服した. We sat down over a leisurely cup of tea.

●彼女は美しい手つきで一服の茶をたてた. Her hands moved gracefully as she stirred up a traditional cup of tea.

●お茶でも一服召しあがっていらっしゃいませんか. Won't you have a cup of tea (with us [before you go])?

3 〔たばこの〕 a smoke; a puff; a whiff; a drag.

～する have a smoke [puff].

●ちょっと外で一服してきます. I'll just go outside and grab a smoke.

・一服しようと思ったがマッチがなかった. I thought I'd have a cigarette but I didn't have any matches.

4 〔ひと休み〕 a rest; 〔仕事の一時中断〕 a break; (お茶やたばこをのみながらの) 《take》 a tea [cigarette] break.

●このへんで一服しようか. What do you say we take a break now?

5 【相場】 a lull; a calm market.

一服盛る administer a dose of poison.
